FIRST SA WINNER FOR DARING BID

The Middlefield Stud based stallion, Daring Bid, got off the mark in South Africa recently, when his 2yo son All The Bids won at the Vaal on Saturday winning by almost four lengths over 1000m from Law Enforcer and Thunder Run.

All The Bids, who is out of a daughter of Mistral Dancer, bolted up to win by 3.75 lengths over 1000m. He has now won and being placed in just a handful of starts for owner-breeder, Favour Stud.

Trained by Corne Spies and ridden by Fanie Chambers, the two year old colt has been retained by breeders Favour Stud. He is out of mare All The Nines by Mistral Dancer. From just four starts, the colt has placed twice previously.

A $1.4 million yearling buy, Daring Bid won four and placed 12 times in the United States.
Retired to stud originally in North America, Daring Bid produced a number of useful winners, from very limited opportunities – including the smart, seven time winner Anna Jane’s Crane.

Daring Bid is a superbly bred individual. He is a son of the ill-fated Kentucky Derby winner Unbridled, whose descendants include numerous champions. During his all-too brief stud career, Unbridled came up with 49 stakes winners including Kentucky Derby winner Grindstone, outstanding sires Empire Maker and Unbridled’s Song, champions Anees and Banshee Breeze, and other Gr1 winners Manistique, Unshaded, Exogenous and Eddington.

Unbridled is also the broodmare sire of leading sire Tapit and Kentucky Derby winner Orb.
Daring Bid, who is out of the Wavering Monarch mare Whiffling, is a half-brother to six winners, including the ill-fated US Champion 3yo, Prairie Bayou. The latter won seven races including the classic Gr1 Preakness Stakes, before suffering a life ending injury in the Gr1 Belmont Stakes.

Daring Bid hails from a great family, whose members include Sky Mesa, Outstandingly, and champion sires Bernstein and Buckpasser. Hopefully,

All The Bids is the first winner of many for this well bred stallion.

Daring Bid was imported by the late Neil Sykes of Orangewood Stud, Daring Bid(USA) has been relocated to stand at Middlefield Stud, the home of Byword, Antigua Island, Rocky Street and Spanish Harlem.

A big individual standing at 16.2 hands, Daring Bid is out of Whiffling by Wavering Monarch - in turn out of a Bold Ruler/Tim Tam mare. The handsome bay stallion with chiselled features is impressive and athletic - looking every bit the $US 1.4 million yearling he sold for. Achieving four wins in the USA over 1600-2200m on turf and dirt, Daring Bid also placed 12 times in the process.

He is a half-brother to Prairie Bayou, winner of the Gr 1 Preakness Stakes and second in the Kentucky Derby, as well as eight-time winner Flitch - another multiple group winner.

His sire Unbridled was Champion 3 year old in the USA and has sired numerous Gr 1 winners as well as going onto to be a sire-of-sires including Unbridled's Song.

Daring Bid began his stud career in the USA before making the trip to South Africa. His American crop includes seven-time winner in 2013 - a filly named Anna Jane's Crane (Future Storm, Fire Dancer).
